Puttin' the Beth in Macbeth

Even the most cursory, CliffsNotes-aided, night-before-the-test-cram-session review of Shakespeare's Macbeth has to note the importance of women in the tragedy. The title character is first seduced by the promise of power by the three "weird sisters," the prophetic but devious mystics that foretell Macbeth's rise. And where would Mac be without Lady Macbeth, the woman whose lust for Scotland's throne causes her to draw first blood? In a play where women are prime movers, the Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble has taken the next step and recast Macbeth with an all-female ensemble. The outdoor production takes place at the Old Post Office Plaza (Ninth and Locust streets) 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday (July 17 through 26), and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday only (July 31 and August 1).
