Q and You

Filmmaker Larry Cohen took the well-worn premise of the buddy-cop movie and married it to the classic sci-fi "giant monster" trope and got Q (a.k.a. The Winged Serpent). David Carradine and Richard Roundtree are the cops, two New York detectives trying to solve the mystery of the half-eaten bodies found on top of many buildings. Enter semi-successful jewel thief Jimmy Quinn (Michael Moriarty), who fortuitously stumbled upon the lair of the killer — and the killer happens to be Quetzalcoatl, the giant flying death lizard of Aztec mythology (New York really does have everything). Quinn tells the cops he'll lead them to the killer, but not until the city gives him a huge stack of cash. Can Kwai Chang Caine and Shaft solve the case before another bikini beauty is eaten? Does Jimmy cash in? Find out at 8 p.m. this evening when the Webster Film Series presents Q at 8 p.m. at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-968-7487 or www.webster.edu/filmseries) as part of its Strange Brew series. Admission is $4.
