Raw Deal

That's how they roll

There's a delicate art to eating sushi. The chopsticks encourage daintiness, and the elegant rolls have to be consumed carefully, lest you lose some of the goodies inside on the dip into the soy sauce. But at Wasabi Festival 2008, all rules of decorum go out the window during the celebration's sushi-eating contest — participants will grab and stuff as much sushi as they can fit in their mouths to try and win a trip to Japan! And you get to watch! For your further entertainment, the free fest offers taiko-drumming and top-spinning performances, a kimono fashion show, karaoke, and even more fun. The street party, held on Washington Avenue between North Tucker Boulevard and North 13th Street, runs from 3 to 8 p.m.; the competitive sushi-eating goes down at 6 p.m. Call Wasabi Sushi Bar at 314-421-3500 or visit for more information.
