Reap What You Sow

Bobby Gould's doing alright for himself. He's been promoted to head of production at a major Hollywood movie studio, but things are as slippery and treacherous at the top as they are in the lower and middle ranks. Probably more so. Venality, greed and behemoth egos that don't know the meaning of "humility" form the landscape of Bobby's career map. All that is solid melts; every allegiance can be suspect. Welcome to Mamet World, where the dialogue is extra piquant -- the actors' rapid-fire lines enmeshing in nonstop, profane arabesques -- and the moral judgments tend toward the bleak. Bobby's dilemma is outlined in playwright David Mamet's Broadway hit, Speed-the-Plow. The New Jewish Theatre presents Speed-the-Plow at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday (February 7 through 23) in the Wool Studio Theater at the Jewish Community Center (2 Millstone Campus Drive, Creve Coeur; 314-442-3283 or www.newjewishtheatre.org). There's a single 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, February 24. Tickets are $35 to $39.
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Feb. 7. Continues through Feb. 23, 2013
