Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band

9 p.m. Tuesday, March 10. Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue.

There are few things St. Louis alt-country fans love more than big ol' heaps of hoosier affectations — those rusticated, folksy aphorisms that give regional roots music an extra kick of authenticity. Naturally, local audiences will eat up the Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, a three-piece acoustic combo from Indiana that drops in plenty of hoosier honky-tonk signifiers. The deceptively titled Big Damn Band plays junked-up country blues with little more than a National steel guitar and simple percussion. Reverend Peyton holds court with his mighty, full-throated holler, while his wife, Breezy, and brother Jayme work the washboard and drums, respectively. Last year's The Whole Fam Damnily proved that the Reverend and his congregation need little more than a foot-stomping groove to catch the spirit. "Your Cousin's on Cops" operates on a gutbucket rhythm and the repetition of the song's title, and yet it makes you wish your cousin were being arrested on Cops.
