Saint Louis Chamber Chorus will perform music illuminating some historical revolutionary movements. Songs in praise of democracy include Britten's “Advance Democracy,” written before WWII. Roy Harris sets Walt Whitman’s words to music in “Three Songs of Democracy.” 19th century Robert Schumann wrote “Drei Männerchöre aus dem Revolutionsjahr.” A 21st century American social revolution is illuminated in “What do you think I fought for at Omaha Beach?,” by Chamber Chorus composer-in-residence Melissa Dunphy, who will attend. Others are American and Russian revolutions, in works by Billings, Shostakovich, Hanns Eisler, and others. Audience members will have access to an exhibit on Argentina.
