Rise Against

Tuesday, August 28 at Pops (1403 Mississippi Ave., Sauget, IL).

Rise Against is living proof that it's not impossible to transition from the punk underground to the rock mainstream. Although the band features former members of DIY Chicago punk acts such as 88 Fingers Louie and Baxter, over the past eight years it's become an over-ground mainstay without losing an ounce of credibility. This is probably due to the fact that it hasn't stopped aligning itself with animal rights and environmental organizations, nor has it changed its sound. If anything, the melodic punk tunes on the recent The Sufferer & The Witness are more impassioned than anything Rise Against has penned to date. Whoever said you couldn't sell records without selling out?
