You know how you think New Year's Eve is amateur hour? Well, in the roaring 1920s, folks had bigger beers to brew and moonshine to muster, what with the alcohol being outlawed and all. It simply wasn’t stylish to be all judge-y about how folks partied because everyone was just thrilled about the opportunity to get together and have a beautiful, buzz-inducing time. Take a step back to this fun, live-and-let-live, clandestine party era from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. this evening at the Fountain on Locust (3037 Locust Street), which hosts the Speakeasy Spectacular, a 1920s-themed New Year's Eve soiree. The retro cocktails will flow freely (for those of age, of course), the fortune teller will provide some insights into what 2013 will hold, the dance contest will allow flappers to show off what they're working with, and all are bound to have a splendid time. Tickets cost $35 to $50, depending on which package you choose; visit www.fountainonlocust.com to solidify your plans.
