Rwanda's Hope Pedalers

Rwanda is a country in recovery. The horrific mass slaughter of the Tutsis by the Hutus in 1994 has been called the most meticulously organized genocide of the 20th century. Almost twenty years later Rwandans still struggle to move forward from the wreckage of their civil war. Incredibly, they found their ambassadors of hope in a small cycling team organized by Jock Boyer, the first American to compete in the Tour de France. The documentary Rising from Ashes follows Jock on his six-year mission to mentor the Rwandan National Cycling Team, in the process elevating both the team and their nation to London's Summer Olympic Games. Rising from Ashes, narrated by Forest Whitaker, screens at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday (September 6 through 8) as part of the Webster University Film Series in the Winfred Moore Auditorium on Webster's campus (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487 or Admission is $5 to $6.
