If you're placing bets on which young female jazz-pop singer is most likely to emerge from the post-Norah Jones pack, you'd do well to put some money on
Sara Gazarek. Now touring in support of her polished debut recording,
Yours,
the
23-year-old
Gazarek has the precise diction, intonation and vocal control you'd expect from a highly trained singer, but she doesn't sound stiff. Her supple alto is well-suited to the pensive balladry that makes up most of the CD, although she also swings with a sure-time feel on the imaginative arrangement of the standard "Cheek to Cheek." With sympathetic backing from a fine trio led by pianist-composer Josh Nelson, Gazarek's musical persona may still be evolving, but her talent is already evident.
Sets start at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10; call 314-863-8631 for more information.
