Showcase of the Future Stars

'Tis the season's of bargains and surprises, and you can double down on both of those with the Webster University Cabaret Student Showcase and Benefit. This fundraiser for the Webster Conservatory's spring auditions fund features graduating students of the university's cabaret and musical theater programs performing two evenings of cabaret (Monday and Tuesday, December 10 and 11) under the direction of Lara Teeter. Both nights feature a different cast, and tickets are just $10 per show. That's the bargain part; the surprise is just how strong the performers are. Tuesday night's line-up includes Nate McClure, Mary Rinderspacher, Charlotte Byrd, Scott James Smith, Dakota Mackey-McGee and Sara Gonzalez; each of them will perform their own mini-show within the show, offering you the opportunity to get to know them a little better as performers. And who knows -- if those spring auditions go well, maybe you'll see a few of these faces again in touring shows in the the coming years. The showcase takes place at 8 p.m. both nights at the Kranzberg Arts Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 314-725-4200, extension 10, or www.licketytix.com).
