New York City duo Sleigh Bells is the rare buzz band that not only has a ton of hype but also has the record sales to back it up. More than 60,000 copies of its debut, Treats, have been sold to date, which isn't bad considering the band's fan base is primarily people who get their music for free. The pairing of vocalist Alexis Krauss and former Poison the Well guitarist Derek Miller (along with an iPod-provided rhythm section) delivers track after track of skull-crushing riffs and hip-hop-influenced beats. Near-rapped, sing-song vocals on top of the music spit lyrics that are largely gibberish. (Example: "Got my A machines on the table/Got my B machines in a drawer.") It's like Björk fronting Public Enemy with Scott Ian on guitar, which sounds as fucked up as it reads. And yet live, it is absolutely awesome.
