SLIFF: It's A Wrap

After countless special events, appearances by independent filmmaker Jon Jost and Academy Award-winning writer-slash-director Oliver Stone, and a whopping 75 features, 63 documentaries and 192 shorts representing 54 countries, the time has come to draw the curtain on the Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival. The fest concludes with a rousing SLIFF closing night party and awards presentation, including the audience picks for Best Film, Best International Film and Best Documentary. While Stone has three Oscars to his credit, the origin of the name "Oscar" will forever be debated, with Bette Davis claiming she named the statuette because its posterior resembled her husband's backside. The audience pick for Best Documentary will receive the coveted Leon award, which is definitively named in memory of Leon Strauss' civic leadership and not his rear end. The ceremony begins at 8 p.m. at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard). Admission and complimentary Stella Artois are free to film fans age 21 or older, and DJ Rob Levy promises to keep the party hoppin'. For more information, visit www.cinemastlouis.org.
