Some Strings Attached

Craig Schwartz, John Cusack's hapless character in Being John Malkovich, believed that among puppeteers he alone addressed "issues." Not so, Craig. Kramer's Marionnette Theater (4143 Laclede Avenue) presents the story of Humpty Dumpty's Easter Parade, in which Humpty (Mother Goose's Icarus perched too high on that wall) is a grump who won't let the animals have their Easter Parade. Harry the Rabbit leads Humpty's opposition, crafting a plan that may enable the parade to go off. Before it's all over, songs are sung, metaphoric omelets are made, and children (and adults) enjoy the fruit of the thousands of hours the Bob Kramer studio puts into handcrafting each marionette. Humpty Dumpty's Easter Parade runs Monday through Saturday (April 10 through 15) at 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. daily. Tickets ($6.25 to $9.25) are available only by reservation, so call 314-533-3313 or visit to save your seats.
