Still Golden, Ponyboy

The West County Family YMCA's Y-Rep Teens will be donning black leather jackets and lettermen sweaters for their stage production of S.E. Hinton's famous coming-of-age story, The Outsiders. In this tale of pride and class division, the audience follows the life of Ponyboy, a 14-year-old high school track runner who was thrown into a life of danger and poverty when his parents died. As he struggles to defend himself against the violent tendencies of the rich Socs and survive along with his gang of fellow "Greasers," Ponyboy tells a story of courage and heroism that still resonates, even 40 years later. The Outsiders is performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (November 17 through 19) at the West County Family YMCA (16464 Burkhardt Place, Chesterfield; 636-532-6515 or visit www.ymcastlouis.org). Tickets are $5 to $8.
