When there's a fight in the Night & Day Global Industries' kitchen, it usually is regarding someone's oh-so-smelly sardine lunches (ahem), not matters of the heart. Even still, it's not that difficult to imagine that there could be some other kinds of controversies in that space -- some competition between the utensils, say, or some jockeying for love among the pieces of cookware, for example. Such a colorful scene would certainly require a lively score, and that's where Bohuslav Martinu's La Revue de Cuisine (1927) comes in. This ballet by the Czech composer lightheartedly explores a love triangle in the kitchen that even a refrigerator couldn't cool down. Hear this work -- along with other pieces composed for theater, including John Mackey's Breakdown Tango (2000) and more -- at Dance, the Chamber Project Saint Louis' season-opening concert. A seven-member group performs at 8 p.m. at the Chapel Venue (6238 Alexander Drive, Clayton), and tickets cost $5 to $18 and include two drinks; check out to learn more.
