Like many twentysomethings, Ethan is not quite where he wants to be in life. He's working two jobs (comic-book writer by day, playwright by night) but not really putting his all into either, he's single, and there's a growing sense that this all may be a permanent condition. In a very brief span of time he ends up meeting the cute and smart Michael, a movie studio options one of his plays for a script -- and they even want Ethan to adapt it. Boyfriend, Hollywood, career upturn — everything's coming up Ethan, right? Oh, no. Now he's spending hours reworking (or is it diluting?) his script, Michael's left out in the cold — and who's that ripped hottie by the pool? Playwright (and comic-book writer) Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Based on A Totally True Story is a modern comic romance with all the modern problems, including frequent mentions of DC superhero the Flash. West End Players Guild presents Based on A Totally True Story at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (February 12 through 21) at the Union Avenue Christian Church (733 North Union Boulevard; 314-367-0025 or www.westendplayers.org). Tickets are $18.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 12. Continues through Feb. 21, 2010
