Style, the Affordable Way

Alas, Ms. Day's prom days are long gone — fortunately, she still doesn't look a day over eighteen, if she does write so herself — but her dress-up days certainly aren't over. In fact, she keeps quite a busy schedule of gala attendance where all manner of fanciness is required. How does she do it on a writer's pay? Why, she shops the sales and keeps her eye out for special events like Dress for a Cause, happening from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 4, at the St. Louis Community College-Wildwood campus (2645 Generations Drive). At this dress sale, gently used formal dresses are being sold for $20 each — and the proceeds benefit ALIVE, a domestic-violence agency for women and children. Ms. Day imagines that she'll be able to find a few frocks for herself, and that all of the ladies looking for prom dresses will find something cute and stylish as well. For more information about the fundraising sale, call 314-650-7996.
