Summertime and the Livin’ Is Cheesy

It may be heresy to say this during allergy season, but let’s hear it for the glory of mold. Not only do these fungi keep us healthy through the miracle of penicillin, but mold is also a key factor in the production of one of life’s finest pleasures: blue cheese. Explore a wealth of moldy, blue-veined cheeses at Lady Sings the Blues, a primer presented at Whole Foods Market (1601 South Brentwood Boulevard, Brentwood; www.wholefoodsmarket.com). Host Denise Carr will lead you through this versatile cheese family; perhaps you’ll discover a mild Gorgonzola to add a little depth to a summer salad or a creamy Stilton that would taste perfect melted atop a burger. The class begins at 6:30 p.m., and the entry fee is $15. Reservations can be made by calling 314-968-7744.
