We tend to think of life as a linear progression, a series of adventures with obvious beginnings and definite endings. But as we age, our little timelines shift and slide; memories of past exploits can become more important than the present -- especially if the present offers nothing in the way of adventure. And so it is for Mabel Tidings Bigelow, a nonagenarian Boston blueblood whose long life is drawing to a close. Hobbled by her failing body, she remembers when she was young and vibrant: She swam the English Channel in the 1920s, lived a life of privilege, married predictably well (and with little love). And now, with only one last Fourth of July garden party to look forward to, the past comes rushing back to sweep aside the doldrums of the present. In Tina Howe’s Pride’s Crossing, life is a messy back-and-forth affair -- but it certainly beats the alternative. Off Center Theatre Company presents Pride’s Crossing at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 7:30 p.m. Sunday (June 28 through July 15) at the Koken Art Factory (2500 Ohio Avenue; 314-835-7415). Tickets are $12 to $15.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: June 28. Continues through July 15
