Taboo Times Three

If you can't talk about sex, you can at least coolly examine ideas about sex in a safe environment. As the name of Art Saint Louis' current show — Three Things You Should Never Talk About — implies, there is a terrible trio of topics one should never discuss in polite society: politics, religion and sex. But the 44 works in Three Things address those forbidden subjects head-on. Still, even though this is an art gallery and not a bar, some of the imagery is powerful enough to conjure unease even if you're flying solo. Are you brave enough to visit on your lunch hour and ponder the meaning of a steel and wax bikini, a ceramic legless baby in military garb sitting on a rusty wagon, or what exactly makes Bush a war president? Art Saint Louis (917 Locust Street, third floor; 314-241-4810 or is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; Three Things remains up through Thursday, August 24.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 16. Continues through Aug. 24
