Take Back the Night

Each year on the first Tuesday of August neighborhoods across the country host nighttime block parties -- because they can. The National Night Out tradition not only fosters community and provides occasion to meet your neighbors, but it's also an excuse to bust out the lawn chairs, light up the grill and drink a few beers on a Tuesday. If your street isn't participating you can always crash on someone else's block, and Benton Park is a great place to start. The neighborhood's party kicks off at 6 p.m. with a talent show followed by a performance by Big Brother Thunder & the Master Blasters. The event is free and open to the public.
