Ah, Reefer Madness. The astoundingly inaccurate 1936 movie about the dangers of pot-smoking (it'll make you violent and permanently insane!) has been embraced by stoners and weird-movie enthusiasts for decades because of its over-the-top performances and sheer lunacy — that piano scene gets people every time. Dan Studney and Kevin Murphy captured the deranged essence of this cautionary tale in their stage adaptation Reefer Madness: The Musical, which, as you may surmise from the title, adds song and dance to the mix. Aspiring Artists Theatre Company stages the musical version at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 (ha! get it?), at Novak's (4121 Manchester Avenue). Dope-smokers call 4/20 their holiday; weirdos remember it as Hitler's birthday. You needn't do either, but enjoying the show while hanging out at the bar sounds fun. Reefer Madness: The Musical is reprised at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Tickets are $15 to $25, and available at the door or through www.brownpapertickets.com.
