The AFI's Top 100 Greatest American Films of All Time: A Parody

When: Fridays, Saturdays, 8 & 10:30 p.m. Continues through July 15 2017
Price: $10-$15
Shane and The Sixth Sense don't seem to have much in common upon first glance. But Magic Smoking Monkey will parody both films, along with 98 other cinematic treasures, as part of its new show, The AFI's Top 100 Greatest American Films of All Time: A Parody. Even better, the company plans to hit all of them in about 60 minutes. Some of the films on the list are easy targets — one line from Forrest Gump ought to do it — but how will they convey something recognizable from F.W. Murnau's 1927 silent parable Sunrise to a post-modern audience? Therein lies the challenge and, perhaps, the fun. The AFI's Top 100 Greatest American Films of All Time: A Parody takes place at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (July 7 to 15) at the Regional Arts Commission (6182 Delmar Boulevard; www.stlshakespeare.org). Tickets are $10 to $15.
