This classical music is tricky. Just when you think it's all harpsichord and pastoral movements, along comes the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra Percussion Festival to blast you out of your misconceptions. Headlined by Scottish percussionist Colin Currie, the festival also showcases John Kasica, Richard Holmes and Thomas Stubbs (all of the SLSO percussion section) as well as the symphony's music director David Robertson and avant-garde musician Eric Hall; this Justice League of talent brings the thunder of Edgard Varese, Christopher Rouse and John Cage to the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or at 7:30 p.m. Cage's "First Construction in Metal (for Six Percussionists)" gets the deluxe treatment here, providing an excellent and exhilarating finale to Robertson's inaugural Fusion Series at the Touhill. Tickets are $15 to $30.
