The Big Muddy Blues Festival

Saturday and Sunday, September 3 and 4; Laclede's Landing (First and Lucas streets)

In a recent St. Louis Post-Dispatch article, Big Muddy Blues Festival organizers warned that unless more sponsorship cash is forthcoming, this could be the last year for the event. So you have all the more reason to get down to Laclede's Landing this particular Labor Day weekend and partake of four stages' worth of free blues, R&B, soul and gospel sounds. Main-stage attractions include guitarist Robert Lockwood and rock icon Bo Diddley on Saturday and Chicago blues-belter Koko Taylor and Hubert Sumlin (the longtime guitarist for Howlin' Wolf's band) on Sunday. But there are plenty of local and regional acts worth a listen, too -- including Keith Doder & Blue City Band, the Bel-Airs, Arthur Williams, and Bennie Smith & Urban Blues Express.

Show runs from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 11 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free; see for more information.
