Local painter Jeremy Rabus creates work that will make you believe in abstract art again. His compositions contain thick, jagged strokes of lush color slathered over one another, creating the impression of incredible movement; the shapes twist and turn and seemingly continue to bend despite their static nature. The images he creates are completely distracting (in a good way) and shut off the surrounding space. Rabus' latest body of work, Outliers, further demonstrates his ability as a great commander of color, and it opens with a free public reception during the Maplewood ArtsWalk from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Hoffman LaChance Contemporary (2713 Sutton Boulevard, Maplewood; 314-960-5322 or www.hoffmanlachancefineart.com). Outliers remains on display through Saturday, April 30, and the gallery is open from noon to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
