The Fairest of the Seasons

It's unfamiliar territory for the St. Louis Cardinals this year. For the first time since 1941, the Birds will start a campaign without Stan Musial present in some capacity. And yet, baseball will be played, and Musial will never be far from the hearts and minds of the city, the fans and the players. The game goes on, and so do we. The Cards begin the season on the road, but make their official home debut today when they take on the never-done-nothing, no-account Cincinnati Reds at 3:15 p.m. at Busch Stadium (Broadway and Poplar Street; 314-345-9500 or www.stlcardinals.com). Remaining tickets are $69.80 to $139.80, but chances are those have all been snapped up by the time you read this. Don't let that stop you from having a good time, however. Skip out of work early and get downtown for the pre-game pep rallies and general merriment that flood the city with a sea of red, and then find a comfy bar stool and watch the game on TV. It's still baseball whether you see it in person or onscreen.
