The New Old Style

Plein air painting is a French style of creating paintings of landscapes and the natural world while actually in the outdoors. For his new exhibition, Yingxue Zuo used the plein air style to render scenes of rural and industrial China while also incorporating some of the compositional techniques of classical Chinese painting. The resulting exhibition of this combination of Eastern and Western sensibilities and old and new schools is called Blend of Styles, appropriately enough. Yingxue Zuo: Blend of Styles opens with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Saint Louis University Museum of Art (3663 Lindell Boulevard; 314-977-2666 or sluma.slu.edu). The show remains up through Sunday, May 29, and the gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, except for Sunday, April 24. Admission is free.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: April 15. Continues through May 29, 2011
