The Party's Never Over

Billy Benner's dark comedy, Speak Easy, drops you into a day in the life of Barney Monroe, a South City guy who hasn't left his basement bar in 30 years. Why should he? The people come to him, packing the joint and putting a terrible strain on the toilet. And maybe there's a bit of strain on Barney, too; 30 years of being the host of the same party day in and day out can wear a guy down. This super-low budget film was shot entirely on location in South City and features musical performances by Catherine Kustelski and Black James, as well as a host of familiar faces (Johnny Vegas, Fred Friction, Eleanor Balson and Larva Lu among them). Speak Easy makes its big screen debut tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Chase Park Plaza Cinema (212 North Kingshighway; 314-367-0101 or stagedfrightmedia.blogspot.com). Tickets are $10.
