In recent years, one-man bands have abandoned their namesakes in exchange for more comprehensive monikers. Chris Carrabba has Dashboard Confessional, Max Bemis is Say Anything, and one of emo's most promising singer-songwriters, Bryce Avary, has the Rocket Summer. Both 2003's Calendar Days and 2005's Hello, Good Friend boast his unique brand of poppy piano ditties, ones often highlighted with moments of guitar-driven rock. And whether he's celebrating his peeps (the raucous romp "Brat Pack") or his lady (the deliberate and driving "Never Knew"), Avary does it all with equal amounts of heart and soul.
