The Samples

Try some wine and cheese on for size

Ms. Day knows that the average Night & Day reader is a more than generous giver: You donate your old clothes, you never forget a birthday, and you've just purchased holiday gifts for practically every person you've ever met. But all this generosity has begun to take its toll — and not just on your bank account. You want to feel appreciated, loved, thanked (have people not heard of thank-you notes?), and you'd like to get a gift once in a while, too. That's why you should go to the Wine & Cheese Place (7435 Forsyth Boulevard, Clayton; 314-727-8788; visit for information about other locations). There, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday, the cheesemongers and oenophiles set up a little table of free goodies for you to try, just to say thank you for being you (or something like that). So go ahead and leave that list of "Things to Purchase for Others" at home today, sip on some wine, sample a couple bites of cheese, pick up a class schedule, mill around a bit, make a few friends, learn a little something — and, most important, get a treat that you didn't have to ask for and that you don't have to reciprocate.
