With the apparent demise of the Kevin Kline awards, the St. Louis theater community faced a void. Sure, quality work would still be done on and behind stages across the metro area, but official recognition for exemplary work would be lacking. Fortunately the St. Louis Theater Circle Awards stepped into the breach. Comprising theater critics working for various media outlets, the St. Louis Theater Circle debuts tonight to honor performers, directors, producers and technical crews for plays produced in the year 2012. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre (Parker Road and Waterford Drive; 314-838-9371 or stltheatercircle AT sbcglobal.net). Tickets are $10; tickets for the pre-show buffet are just $15.
