If the sound of New Orleans is the sound of several cultures colliding, then Theresa Andersson adds a Nordic twist to the amalgam of jazz, blues and folk that comes from the Crescent City. Born and raised in Sweden, Andersson moved to Louisiana in the '90s to work with fellow expat Anders Osborne but has established her own voice in the past decade. Her songs fuse folksy wisdom with smart pop dynamics, a combination that guided the recording of her last release, 2008's Hummingbird, Go! Working with Swedish producer Tobias Froberg (who's also worked with Ane Brun and Peter, Bjorn & John), Andersson recorded the album in her kitchen and used nearby wine glasses and soda bottles as percussion instruments. The DIY attitude carries through to her one-woman shows, where Andersson creates mini symphonies and swirling, multi-hued reveries.
