All things tattoo

St. Louis will be exposing a lot of skin this weekend, but it will be covered — in ink. Now an annual event, the St. Louis Old School Tattoo Expo settles in for a Friday-to-Sunday romp (November 14 through 16) at the Holiday Inn Select Convention Center (811 North Ninth Street). The expo promises seminars, tattoo contests and dozens of tattoo artists with varying areas of expertise — everything from Bob Tyrrell's painstaking portraits to far-out contemporary designs to Jess Yen's traditional Japanese hand-poke method. And, yes, you can indeed get new work done onsite (check the artist list at www.oldschooltattooexpo.com for appointment options). Among this year's featured speakers is renowned tattoo artist (and Old School Tattoo Expo founder) Lyle Tuttle, who will give an extensive presentation on the history of tattooing on Saturday. Friday's start time is 2 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday's events begin at noon. Admission wristbands cost $15, and a three-day pass is available for $35.
