This House Is...Not Clean

Like many kids growing up in the 1980s, each October we turned the garage of our modest suburban home into a DIY haunted house. In retrospect, the black crepe paper and peeled grapes ("Feels like eyeballs!") were more pathetic than scary, but hey. Now that we're grown up (age-wise, at least), it's time to experience truly great frights, such as those in the Scarefest family of haunted houses. These internationally acclaimed houses o' horror get bigger and better every year. The Darkness (1525 South Eighth Street), featured as one of the History Channel's "Modern Marvels," has added new scenes, new twists and new monsters — and the 3-D funhouse will play tricks on your mind that you just have to experience to believe. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for kids less than 50 inches tall; combo tickets and speed passes are also available.
