This'll Move You

So you've already experienced a midday dance concert (see "Dance: It's What's for Lunch"), and that creative outdoor display has gotten you all jazzed up and excited about the art form. So keep moving in that direction and round off your evening with some dance as well! The Modern American Dance Company presents Music and Moves at 8 p.m. at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). This simply titled show features exactly what it claims it will — and much more. Pounding beats from the UMSL Percussion Ensemble will provide the bones of the concert, so to speak, and the fleshy bits will be filled in by dancers performing premieres by Cecil Slaughter, Todd Weeks and others all throughout the theater space — there will be no confining these dancers to the stage! And there won't be any keeping you in your seat, either! During Music and Moves, you're free to move about, watch the pieces, and eat and drink. Let's just say that after this weekend your meals won't ever be the same again. Tickets for the dance showcase, happening Friday and Saturday (September 18 and 19), cost $18 to $20; call 314-516-4949 or visit www.touhill.org to make a purchase, and visit www.madcodance.com to learn more.
