Three Artists, Exposed

Universities always house their colleges of art and science together under one banner. St. Louis-based artists Brigham Dimick of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Ronald Leax of Washington University and Greg Edmondson are employers of scientific methods (if not the scientific method itself) as well as sculpture materials, paper and pencil. The three artists show their work together in Exposure 14, the new exhibit at Gallery 210 on the campus of University of Missouri-St. Louis (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). Leax is a sculptor whose almost living pieces are often mistaken for experiments, whereas Edmondson's incredibly perfect drawings look like impossibly beautiful images of single-cell organisms. Dimick's Self-Portrait in Honeycomb is perhaps the most fascinating; the artist's profile was rendered by honeybees as they built their honeycomb hideout. Exposure 14 opens with a free public reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 25, and a panel discussion takes place at 6:15 p.m. in the Gallery 210 Auditorium.
