Till Death Do They Art

Relationships require a balance of similarities and differences to maintain stability; opposites attract, but you need to have something in common as well. The husband-and-wife artists Matt and Sharlene Kindt are no exception, as shown in the University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Gallery Visio (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-7922 or exhibition, Matt and Sharlene Kindt: Books or Your Friends. Comic-book connoisseur Matt Kindt creates images of his favorite fictional characters, while Sharlene makes portraits of actual people who are significant individuals in her life. Together, their works both illustrate the bond they share as artists and demonstrate the different approaches they take in thinking about and making art. The Kindts have also replicated their living room in one corner of the gallery, complete with sofa, some favorite books and a coffee table displaying their individual sketchbooks; it’s a deeper look into the shared differences of their creative processes. Books or Your Friends opens with a free public reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 29. The show remains up through Friday, July 27, and Gallery Visio is open Monday through Saturday.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: June 29. Continues through July 27
