A farmer bringing fresh produce to market must feel something like an artist at his or her opening reception. The pride of accomplishment, the beauty of the finished product -- it all has to be very overwhelming. And at the Kirkwood Farmers’ Market (150 East Argonne Drive, Kirkwood; www.kirkwoodjunction.com), the growers get to show off daily! The market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the fresh fruits (and vegetables and flowers), this spot offers an even cooler reason for visiting: Tropical Moose Shaved Ice. More than just a mere snow-cone stand, Tro Mo serves up a ton of flavors (even one for dogs!) and some interesting add-ins (cheesecake and Pop Rocks among them). And chilling out with a shaved ice is easy since the Moose is open from noon to 9 p.m. daily through Labor Day, and the frozen treats cost only $1 to $4.
