Tofu for You

Every neighborhood has a special place, a locale that almost feels like it’s your little secret -- even though you’re never the only person in there. Terrene (33 North Sarah Street; 314-535-5100 or www.terrene-stlouis.com) is Ms. Day’s spot in the Central West End. She’ll tear away from work just to get at that most spectacular of small plates, the fried tofu on a stick. Now, this may not sound great, especially to all of you bacon lovers out there (Day’s looking in your direction, Mr. Night), but this tofu with its cashew dipping sauce is damn divine. And now, during the happiest of hours -- from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday -- this meat-free delight is half-free in the bar! And so are all of the other small plates! Plus, Schlafly beers are $2.75! Ms. Day just wants to shout it from the rooftops!
