Toys on the Wall 

Where would today's fine artist be if it weren't for toys? Toys get the creative juices flowing, allowing kids to create a world where Boba Fett and Batman can fight side by side against Hello Kitty, and Barbie can date whomever she darn pleases. How many contemporary sculptors got their mitts on a few cans of Play-DoH before hitting the plasticine and plaster? This Christmas, toys aren't just going to be under the tree, they'll be hanging on the gallery walls at the Foundry Art Center (520 North Main Center, St. Charles; 636-255-0270 or Rag Dolls, Robots & Rocketships is a juried exhibition featuring work inspired by the playthings of more than 50 participating artists including digital artist Anne Chesnut, painter Barry Fitzgerald and Paul Nitsche, known around these parts for his cover art on Dazzling Killmen's seminal underground LP Face Of Collapse. The show opens Friday, December 6, and the work remains up through will be on display through Friday, January 17, 2014. Admission is free and the gallery is open every day except Monday and major holidays.
