It takes just a few days of humid, sticky weather to remind you of why you prefer short hair for the summer — it's really the only way to fix up that frizz and tame that mane! To get things in tip-top shape up top, be sure to stop by Studio Altius (3518-1 Greenwood Boulevard, Maplewood) from 1 to 5 p.m. for the Cirque du Cheveux: Locks of Love Fundraising Photo Shoot. This hair affair offers free cuts to those willing to donate their ponytails to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to children in need. To take advantage of the generosity of the photo studio and the local stylists participating, and to demonstrate your own giving spirit, trim off ten inches or more of your un-highlighted locks (hair that has been permed or colored is OK) and maybe even bring along some cash to donate to the cause. In addition to the hair-styling fun, circus performers will add to the atmosphere, offering inspiration for your post-makeover photo shoot as a circus star. Photo prints cost $5 to $8, and proceeds also benefit Locks of Love. To learn more about the event, call Studio Altius at 314-769-9769 or visit
