Tricks and Treats

Have a naughty-nice Halloween

Ms. Day has struggled with Halloween for years. As a classy lady, she hasn't been fond of dressing up like a tarted up whatever, but she also hasn't found great pleasure in donning, say, a princess ensemble, no matter how appropriate a costume of the royal variety might be for her (Day is fancy, but she's not a five-year-old). Furthermore, she hasn't wanted to stay at home on Halloween night, crying into a bowl of mini Snickers and hanging out with the neighborhood kiddos — that would be tantamount to admitting that she's old! And friends, a confession like that will never happen. So what's a lady to do? Why, she must head to the Roberts Orpheum Theater (416 North Ninth Street) for Illusionist Keith Jozsef's Halloween Extravaganza! This is the seventh year for the magical event, and it seems like this might be the best one yet! Chanteuse Anita Rosamond starts the evening off the classy way by performing songs from her albums Keep Liftin' Me Higher — Live! and Timeless, which include tracks like "Last Dance" and "I've Got the World on a String." Then, to make the little sexpots happy, the Alley Cat Revue throws in a splash of the sassy with its titillating burlesque show. And, of course, Keith Jozsef (pictured), magician extraordinaire, keeps the whole evening mysterious with his mastery of illusion and sleight-of-hand trickery. To join Day for the magic tricks and other treats, pay $30 for VIP cabaret seating or $20 for general-admission tickets (at www.ticketmaster.com); the doors of the Orpheum open at 7 p.m., and the extravaganza begins an hour later.
