Truck You

When Ms. Day was but a little miss, she enjoyed playing kitchen and dress-up as much as the next young lady, but she also loved to climb and run and jump outside. One of her most favorite pieces of playground equipment was an old fire truck at her neighborhood park. Clambering aboard the big rig and steering its giant wheel amused her to no end, in part because the truck was an excellent vehicle for make-believe (she's so punny!) and also because it was just huge! For some reason kids really seem to be drawn to things that dwarf them, which is why the second annual Big Truck Day at the Kemp Auto Museum (16955 Chesterfield Airport Road, Chesterfield; 636-537-1718 or www.kempautomuseum.org) is going to be so awesome for children (and the little Miss Days inside all of us). At this free event, emergency vehicles, including fire trucks and ambulances, will be on site, as will excavators, a cement mixer, a Hummer, a semi truck and much more. The photo ops on the fire truck will make the day even more special, plus museum admission will be offered at a reduced rate of $5 for adults and $3 for kids. Big Truck Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a cash bar and hot dogs will be available.
