Ultraman

7 p.m. Saturday, December 27. Fubar, 3108 Locust Street.

After more than twenty years as a band (which included an extended hiatus for most of the '90s), Ultraman is still somewhat active: It plays the occasional show and even releases new material (most recently 2004's The Constant Weight of Zero). But the relevance of these St. Louis music-scene veterans can be seen most clearly in the wide-branching family tree of local punk acts that were spawned because of (and heavily influenced by) Ultraman's unique brand of bellowing, spastic and anthemic hardcore.
