'Tis the season of gift-giving. Perhaps you're spent after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, or maybe your wallet is simply spent, you know, with these challenging times and all. While we all understand that it's better to give than to receive, being on the receiving end of a present for which absolutely nothing — nothing — is expected in return is a pretty good feeling as well. The students and faculty members of the Webster University department of music offer such a gift to you and you and you and you. During the Gift to the City holiday concert, the musicianship of the chamber orchestra and the voices of Webster's many choral groups fill Christ Church Cathedral (1210 Locust Street; 314-231-3454) with such lovely music from around the world that not only are concert attendees the richer for it, but the entire city benefits from the reverberations of the good holiday vibes offered up. Concerts are presented at 2 and 4 p.m. this afternoon, and admission is free, free, free, so expect to feel enriched and satisfied rather than spent as you depart and begin your workweek.
