Valient Thorr

7 p.m. Wednesday, September 5. Creepy Crawl, 3524 Washington Boulevard.

Yes, Valient Thorr claims to be from Burlatia, a city on the planet Venus at the confluence of three ice rivers. Yes, the band is said to have crash-landed in North Carolina in 1957. And yes, there is something about Walt Disney supposedly taking possession of its spaceship, stranding the planet-hopping rockers here on Earth. But while the burly quintet's unwavering commitment to its interplanetary tall tale makes the story seem believable at times, one thing impossible to deny about Valient Thorr is its live show. Thanks to blistering guitar work, arena-worthy stage antics and early hardcore-inspired vocal battle cries, it's truly one of the most energetic, sweaty, politically charged, awe-inspiring, face-melting rock & roll spectacles you're likely to witness on this messed-up little planet.
