Wayans Back Machine

To ruthlessly mock an art form is cruel; to mock an art form with a heavy dose of love can lead to comedy gold. Such is the case with the 1988 movie I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, a send-up of '70s Blaxploitation films. Writer and director Keenen Ivory Wayans stars as Jack Spade, an Army vet who returns to his old neighborhood to find that his brother has died from an overdose...of gold necklaces. Spade vows revenge on the local crime lord and assembles a crack team of actual Blaxploitation veterans, including Isaac Hayes and Jim Brown, to pursue justice. Sucka screens as part of the Webster Film Series' Strange Brew programming at 8 p.m. at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337). Tickets are $4 to $6.
