Rock Paper Scissors, or RPS for short, has become a highly competitive professional sport. Once relegated only to deciding matters like who would have to sit in the back seat, clean off the table, eat the mystery fuzz in the fridge or stand up to get the remote, the competitive "game" has now been elevated to international-phenomenon and televised-tournament status — and there's a fancy Web site and everything (www.worldrps.com). It seems that RPS will soon be used to decide the most important of matters (who gets to watch what on TV, who's picking up the tab), unlike sports such as tennis and golf, which don't solve any problems.

Now, St. Louis — a place that once bemoaned the fact it didn't have a pro basketball team — doesn't have to worry about a sports chasm any longer: Our fair city is playing host to a RPS Tournament this evening at the Saint Louis Science Center (5050 Oakland Avenue; 314-289-4400 or www.slsc.org). Everyone is eligible — that is, if you've been practicing — and free registration begins at 7 p.m. Be sure to wear a costume (it's kinda expected; there's a contest), because your hero, Graham Walker — one of the two leaders of the World RPS Society — will be there. Hopefully, his hands aren't in training, so he can sign autographs. Good luck!
